Shaping Interculturalism in Youth Work Conference

On November 28th 2008 (marking the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue) the National Youth Council of Ireland hosted a conference entitled Shaping Interculturalism in Youth Work.

What's Doing? (2009)

cork anti racism eventTo mark the International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and the European-wide Action Week against Racism, the National Youth Council of Ireland hosted “What’s doing?” in Cork city on March 25th, 2009.

The event was a two hour showcase and workshop for youth workers, aimed at promoting an intercultural approach in voluntary youth work by drawing on the experience of successful intercultural youth projects in Cork. The event began with an exhibition of five projects in Munster; the Ninos project (YMCA Cork), Bishopstown Youth Project (Ogra Chorcaí), projects run by Foróige in Bandon and Mahon, Co. Cork, as well as the Mayfield Community Arts Centre Global Education Project and Kerry Diocesan Youth Services.

At the event 30 youth workers had the chance to break into smaller groups to discuss the nuts and bolts of intercultural youth work projects, putting questions to the project leaders around the implementation, challenges and opportunities of interculturalism in youth work.
